ABOUT THE FIRM

Rock Creek Law, LLC provides trial and appellate representation in Washington, DC, Maryland, and federal courts nationwide, with an emphasis on civil rights claims and appeals of all kinds.  Formerly a Deputy Chief in the Appellate Section of the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice and the Legal Director of a national advocacy organization, the Firm's founder Ayesha N. Khan has served as counsel in hundreds of cases, including in thirty-five cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. 


The Firm's civil rights practice is wide-ranging, encompassing discrimination in employment and public accommodations, including sexual harassment, racial discrimination, and discrimination against the LGBTQ community, as well as litigation under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.  The Firm also consults to civil rights organizations regarding their litigation programs, providing strategic counsel and mentorship to in-house legal staff and co-counseling cases.

The Firm handles appeals in the appellate courts of Washington, DC and Maryland, as well as in every federal circuit in the country.  The subject areas of the firm's appellate practice have included constitutional, statutory, and common-law questions of all kinds, including  products liability and other tort questions, contract disputes, family law, civil rights, and criminal law.   The Firm's founder also has extensive experience litigating complex substantive and procedural questions arising under the First Amendment, class-action practice, 42 U.S.C. § 1983, and habeas corpus protections.

The Firm has the depth and breadth of experience to stand up to a law firm of any size, while still getting to know its clients.   It approaches each engagement with a fresh and creative eye, providing clients with a frank assessment of the merits of disputes and scaling each representation to fit a client’s needs.

APPELLATE LITIGATION: 

The firm handles appeals of all kinds before state appellate courts in Maryland and Washington, D.C. and every federal Circuit. It also prepares amicus curiae briefs for state and federal appellate courts in cases that substantially affect clients' interests.

LITIGATION CONSULTING: 
The firm consults to nonprofit organizations regarding their litigation programs by providing training and mentorship to in-house lawyers, offering strategic counsel on cases, and co-counseling cases with existing legal staff.
TRIAL-LEVEL LITIGATION: 
The firm litigates civil rights cases on behalf of individuals in the courts of Maryland and Washington, DC, and advises trial lawyers on critical motions and appellate preservation.
